Rubberbandance Group (Canada)
Rubberbandance Group is a Canadian company of five exceptional
dancers with backgrounds in ballet, contemporary, Hip Hop and breakdancing styles,
under the artistic direction of Victor Quijada. Their work is a fusion of the spectacle,
articulation and freedom of break dance, with the abstraction, nuances and
technique of neo-classical dance.
Quijada danced with Twyla Tharp's company for
a number of years, and following its break-up, worked with Eliot Feld's company
Ballet Tech.
In 2001 he moved to Montreal to join Les Grand Ballets Canadian de Montreal.
However, it was on the streets and in the clubs of the city that he rediscovered Hip-Hop.
While continuing to perform for the ballet company he started to work with a group of
street dancers experimenting with the form, and thus began to develop the
ground-breaking style encapsulated by the Rubberbandance Group today.
