Festival Workshops

As part of the Breakin' Convention festival, we offer you the opportunity to take part in workshops with four top hip-hop dance pioneers. From the original poppin moves from the '70's right through to the clowning craze spreading through USA today, don't miss out on these fantastic events.

All workshops are £10.00 (£6.00 concessions) and take place in the Lilian Baylis Theatre, at Sadler's Wells. Availabe to Breakin' Convention ticket holders only.

A rare opportunity to participate in a workshop with Rennie Harris, choreographer of Rennie Harris Pure Movement's Rome & Jewels and Facing Mekka.
Jonzi D

Lyrically motivated movement with Jonzi D.

The workshop explores how rap/poetry can be used to make dance motifs. Using rap patterns to develop mimetic and rhythmic movement, to create a visualyrical human score.

Some experience in dance and spoken word or rap will be useful for this choreographic workshop.
Tommy the Clown

A special workshop for young people led by Tommy the Clown.

Designed to help, create, train and educate those students who are interested in learning the basic fundamentals of being a hip hop dancing krumped clown.

This session includes clown dancing, krump dancing, face painting.
Popin Pete (Electric Boogaloos)
Sunday 16 May
2pm - 3.45pm


An incredible opportunity to take part in a workshop with Popin Pete, an original member of the Electric Boogaloos.

He will teach the history of the dance style invented by Boogaloo Sam in 1976, and the moves that come along with it.
