Future Elements is Breakin' Convention's young people's project and this Easter holiday in just 5 days we created a brand new music video Dr Merkage Bop.
Day 1: it all kicked off on a Saturday morning at Sadler's Wells. 30 young people from across London and five artists met to create the concept for a brand new music video. Warm up games, crazy dancing and lots of creative thinking to come up with the concept ...
Day 2-4: the dancers got to work in the studio with beats provided by Music Producer Kewba whilst the MCs worked with Jonzi D to create the lyrics for the track. Aspiring film makers got to work with Mo-Am learning the tricks of filming and editing.
Graffiti aerosol artists worked with Solo One from VopStars to create artwork costumes and set. First they started by creating artwork from the key lyrics
From here they turned them into stensils
and got to work spraying
and layering
and more
wearing masks to protect themselves from the fumes
to create the stunning work that adorned the walls at Sadler's Wells Stage Door throughout Breakin' Convention 2010
and then they turned their hand to creating the costumes
Day 5: The day finally dawned ... Film Shoot day! There could be no lateness, no messing and huge amounts of energy.
Someone familar just couldn't resist a cameo ... can you spot him?
Yes, it was Breakin' Convention's very own Jonzi D!
And then the day was done. The shoot complete and everyone went home for a well deserved rest. Dr Merkage Bop was edited by Mo-Am ready for the world premiere at Future Elements Night on 29 April 2010 - the first night of Breakin' Convention 2010!
Stay tuned for the final music video
A massive thank you to all the artists and youg people on this year's Future Elements Project.
