Do you have an eye for great cinematography? Can you tell a story through video? Is your film-making innovative?

Breakin’ Convention is looking for the next generation of film-makers from around the UK to take part in our third BCTV mentorship programme alongside our 2017 national tour in the following cities: London, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Norwich, Southampton, Salford, Leicester, Blackpool, Brighton and Birmingham.

As part of the opportunity selected emerging film-makers will receive training and mentorship as well as produce engaging video content for BCTV.

We want to hear from innovative, emerging film-makers from each of our tour destinations with an understanding of hip hop culture to tell unique stories and promote the positive aspect of hip hop to the rest of the world. We want film-makers who can contribute to the vision of BCTV.

If you are selected as one of our film-makers you will be invited to our two-day BCTV Film-Makers training session in London where you will learn more about Breakin' Convention, your role as well as taking part in a range of sessions delivered by experienced film-makers and industry specialists. Our mentor will also spend a day with you in your hometown focussing on film-making techniques and skills specific to your needs or knowledge gaps.

Film-makers will work closely with Breakin' Convention, our mentor and their local venues to create and follow briefs to document the festival as it comes to your city. You will be expected to make a minimum of two short films which will be uploaded to our channel. You will create a highlight film of the Breakin' Convention Festival in your city and at least one other film which you will be responsible for conceptualising, writing a proposal and treatment and producing.

Some participants from the first BCTV Mentorship Programme have gone on to form our core BCTV Team receiving regular commissions including work across the UK, Germany for Battle of the Year and our forthcoming USA Tour.

Producing and Touring Intern - Fixed term, part time position

We are looking for a Producing and Touring Intern to assist with the administrative and coordination support for the creation and tours of Sadler's Wells productions, both within the UK and abroad.

Sadler's Wells is a world-leading dance house, presenting a year-round programme of dance of every kind to annual audiences of over half a million on its three London stages: Sadler's Wells' theatre (1,500 seats), the Lilian Baylis Studio (180 seats) and The Peacock (1,000 seats). It also commissions and produces cutting-edge original work and tours it to arts venues in the UK and overseas. 

Sadler's Wells' producing and touring programme ensures we can play a dynamic role in the development of dance and bring innovative and inspiring productions to audiences across the world.

You will have good administrative and organisational skills and be able to manage and prioritise varied workloads. You will also be a strong communicator, and a good team player, with an eye for detail. 

We will give you access to support and training, with the opportunity to gain an insight in to the creative industries.

Working hours are 30 hours over four days per week.

Kitchen Porter - Fulltime positions

The Kitchen Porters are responsible for ensuring that the kitchen is cleaned and maintained to company standards. They will assist in the smooth running of the kitchen in order to give a good service to our visitors and guests. The successful candidates will be personable, hardworking, and excellent team players with a can do attitude. Previous experience of working within a kitchen environment would be advantageous.

We are looking for a Sous Chef to support the Development Head Chef in creating seasonal menus, managing the kitchen and contributing an excellent guest experience throughout Sadler's Wells.   

You will have a passion for food and a good palate, with excellent communication skills and a creative approach to menu design. You will also be a strong leader, with previous experience working at Sous Chef level.   

Salary circa £30,000 per annum, plus benefits.

Breakin' Convention has been touring the UK far and wide in 2016, filming recaps and after-movies in each city we went to!

From theatre-to-theatre, Breakin' Convention took over the building after spilling off stage, throughout the foyers and on to the street to make this our most unforgettable UK tour (yet!).

BCTV is Breakin' Convention's online channel on YouTube and a professional development course for emerging film makers in the realm of hip hop. Working with a film maker in each city we toured to, Breakin' Convention nurtured 12 aspiring cinematographers to equip them with the skills in order to raise the standard of dance on film, while at the same time connecting theatres with local videographers for the future.

As we prepare to head East in 2021, we're undertaking projects of 'Olympic' proportions!
 
Breakin' Convention recently finished our Moving Rap project, a collaboration between Breakin' Convention and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park involving eight schools in East London working with rappers and choreographers to create a performance, later showcased at Here East in the Olympic Park.

After an exciting assembly tour, we shortlisted twelve schools to eight, with a select number of students from each school developing a piece every week with our tutors, to showcase at a big performance with all the schools, tutors and audience in just two months!

Moving Rap Assemblies

Throughout Spring 2016, Breakin' Convention teamed up with the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to present Moving Rap.

Rapper Kingpin and dance crew BirdGang, toured East London school assemblies with a performance piece to inspire the student and demonstrate what the project will be about to stir up excitement.

Breakin' Convention will be moving into the Olympic Park in 2021 as part of Sadler's Wells' expansion in to the East, and we are excited to start the Hip Hop Academy at Sadler's Wells Theatre there to help develop more skills and opportunities for young people.

Breakin' Convention is incredibly excited to announce its line up for London at Sadler's Wells Theatre. 

Boasting the greatest hip hop dance companies from around the world and around the corner we have all-girl crew Bandidas from France, Canada’s BBoyizm, the original rubber man, Damon Frost, French super crew Enfants Prodiges and straight from the streets of South Africa, Soweto Skeleton Movers!

Representing UK we have Boy Blue Entertainment, Daughters of the Dragon, Far From The Norm, Flawless, The Locksmiths, Myself UK, Spoken Movement, SWNSNGTake 1 and Wayward Thread.

We also have work created at our Back to the Lab and Open Art Surgery professional development courses on the main stage and in the studio theatre, including House of Absolute, Kieran Warner, Pro-Motion and Protocol Dance Company, from our future festival project Words Become Flesh, David Judge and Kendra Horsburgh merging performance poetry and movement in a performance that will leave you lost for words.

Future Elements Night is when the kids run things at Breakin' Convention. Witness the future of hip hop dance theatre with a line-up of work by young people for young people! 

The night will feature the screening of Breakin' Conventions' music video created by members of the Future Elements Project. Join the artists post show in the bar area for the Future Elements Jam. Young DJs hit the decks, MCs grab the mic and dancers jam.
