In the lead-up to opening Academy Breakin’ Convention at Sadler’s Wells East, Breakin’ Convention is offering opportunities for beginner to intermediate dancers 12 - 19 years old, starting 26 April 2024. Develop your skills, perform and train up your foundations while learning choreography.

Led by Malachi Lewis, these weekly sessions will take place in an open rehearsal style format with training opportunities throughout.

  • Joining is just a one-off £5, with all sessions free

  • Open to all abilities of dancers between 12 and 19 (ability-based)

  • Some experience of dancing hip hop styles would be good but not essential

  • Classes take place weekly on Fridays, 5-7pm in the evening to fit around school, college and work commitments

  • You should be able to commit to the majority of sessions

Meet the dance teacher: Malachi Lewis

Malachi is a 24-year-old movement artist and assistant director from East London who began his dance journey at Boy Blue in 2009. He is now a senior member of the Olivier Award-winning company. He's performed at prestigious venues like Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Peacock Theatre and Sadler's Wells.

His repertoire includes hip hop theatre shows, national and international tours, TV and film projects, and collaborations with director Danny Boyle and artists such as Giggs, J Hus and Nyja. Additionally, he was a main stage dancer for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee pageant in 2022 with Boy Blue. His diverse portfolio extends to partnerships with Sky, Nike, BBC, and more.

Lastly, he has contributed to various visuals for IMD Legion and served as an assistant director for various different short films and music videos.
