Emerging film-makers from across the UK wanted
Breakin’ Convention is looking for the next generation of film-makers from around the UK to take part in our next BCTV mentorship programme alongside our national tour.
As part of the opportunity selected emerging film-makers will receive training and mentorship as well as producing engaging video content for BCTV.
Applications will open late 2019
Breakin’ Convention (based at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London) is one of the world’s leading hip hop dance organisations. We deliver a dynamic programme of events, performances and projects including the critically-acclaimed Breakin’ Convention International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre. We work with some of the world’s finest hip hop artists from pioneers through to those innovating and at the cutting edge of their art forms.
Launched in 2014, BCTV is an online video channel/platform which captures Breakin’ Convention’s work, the artists we work with - from live performances to interviews, short documentaries and conceptual videos. It provides a slick insight into our world and gives an international platform to the plethora of talent that we work with.
BCTV creates stylised, dynamic and original content from our existing programme/projects and extensive network of dancers and hip hop artists that is both in demand, relevant and engaging to our audience.
Who we’re looking for
We want to hear from innovative, emerging film-makers from each of our tour destinations with an understanding of hip hop culture to tell unique stories and promote the positive aspects of hip hop to the rest of the world. We want film-makers who can contribute to the vision of BCTV.
What you get out of the project
If you are selected as one of our film-makers you will be invited to our two-day BCTV Film-Makers training session in London where you will learn more about Breakin’ Convention, your role, as well as taking part in a range of sessions delivered by experienced film-makers and industry specialists. Our mentor will also spend a day with you in your hometown focusing on film-making techniques and skills specific to your needs or knowledge gaps.
Film-makers will work closely with Breakin’ Convention, our mentor and their local venues to create and follow briefs to document the festival as it comes to your city. You will be expected to make a minimum of two short films which will be uploaded to our channel. You will create a highlight film of the Breakin’ Convention Festival in your city and at least one other film which you will be responsible for conceptualising, writing a proposal and treatment and producing.
Some participants from the BCTV Mentorship Programme have gone on to form our core BCTV Team, receiving regular commissions including work across the UK, Luxembourg, Canada and the USA.
