Breakin’ Convention is looking for the next generation of content creators from around the UK to be a part of our next BCTV programme tied to our national tour to create innovative and exciting content for our social media. This is a great opportunity to meet new people in the industry, grow professionally and have your work seen by thousands. If you’re interested in being a part of the project, read on.

What is the project?

Launched in 2014, BCTV is an online video channel/platform which captures Breakin’ Convention’s work and the artists we work with - from live performances to interviews, short documentaries and conceptual videos. It provides a slick insight into our world and gives an international platform to the plethora of talent that we work with. We create stylised, dynamic and original content from our existing programme/projects and extensive network of dancers and hip hop artists that is greatly needed in the realm of hip hop.

What do I get?

If accepted you will be one of up to 10 film makers invited to monthly online sessions hosted by Breakin’ Convention with industry-standard training, mentorship and hands-on exercises in a bid to produce content for Breakin’ Convention.

If you make the cut, we will pay you for your time working for us. Sound good? Register your interest!

Please note: The role we are providing training for is for solo individuals, and we are not looking for film companies.

To address the gender balance in film making, we have a particular interest in female film makers close to Blackpool, South Shields, Canterbury and Norwich.

Who will make the cut?

Breakin’ Convention will be touring its international festival of hip hop dance theatre to 9 UK cities in 2023, and we need film-makers to help us to document and represent those cities. The successful creators will help Breakin’ Convention create engaging content for our social media, showcase the breadth of UK’s hip hop talent, and support our vision.

Our free training and refresher sessions will include:

  • An introduction to Breakin’ Convention and BCTV

  • A refresher on aspects of being a solo film maker and carving a successful career

  • Online mentoring from professional film makers

  • Practical tasks to test what you have learnt

What is the criteria?

Breakin’ Convention recognises there is a wealth of film-making talent across the UK, and we want to present this to our audience.

We want to hear from innovative, emerging film-makers from our tour destinations with an understanding of hip hop culture to tell unique stories and promote the positive aspects of hip hop to the rest of the world. We want film-makers who can contribute to the vision of Breakin’ Convention.

We don’t set any age or professional level-based criteria for doing the project, but you will require:

  • Your own camera - either DSLR or professional camcorder.

  • Your own editing software, eg, Premiere Pro, FinalCut.

  • Your own equipment – lenses, microphones, monopods/tripods.

  • An interest in hip hop culture.

Please note: The role we are providing training for is for solo individuals, and we are not looking for film companies.
