Try Breakin’ Convention, the annual festival of hip hop dance theatre at Sadler’s Wells in Islington, London.
It’s the ultimate place to see the latest cutting-edge ideas marrying hip hop and theatre and has been the platform for many feature-length shows that have gone on the West End, including ZooNation’s Into the Hoods and Boy Blue Entertainment’s Olivier Award-winning show, Pied Piper.
How is Breakin’ Convention different to Hamilton?
Breakin’ Convention is a variety show. Performances are mostly dance-based, with some pieces including spoken word and live music. Performances at Breakin’ Convention are shorter form - up to 30 minutes in length - but with such a variety of performances to watch each night, less really is more.
So it’s just a show to watch dance?
No. The entire venue of Sadler’s Wells is taken over with live DJs, dance circles, graffiti and free have-a-go activities. This is your chance to experience Sadler’s Wells, but as you’ve never known it.
