Open Art Surgery - Online
Mon 7 - Sat 12 June 2021

Whether dancer, rapper, DJ, spoken word artist or graff writer - bring your art, bring your creative side and create something new.
This week-long professional development project offers hip hop theatre companies and performers, an opportunity to develop and experiment with new ideas, with experienced hip hop theatre mentors on hand to inspire, advise and offer support. Open Art Surgery allows artists to take creative risks, try something different and test ideas. At the end of the week, the work is shared through live performance and the audience is invited to offer constructive critical feedback.
Open Art Surgery is about breaking down the fourth wall and showcasing raw talent and new work. Previous pieces that have been developed during Open Art Surgery have gone on to feature in Resolution, Edinburgh Fringe and Breakin' Convention's international tours.
This Open Art Surgery is unique – the whole project will be conducted online!
Participating artists will work in studio spaces (if required, and where it’s possible to arrange in a local venue) and will be mentored throughout the week via Zoom. The sharing will take place on the Saturday, online, with an opportunity to invite audiences from around the world, and around the corner!
What do we require from you?
A commitment to develop a new piece of hip hop dance theatre in May and June! There is no limit on numbers of performers for this process. This is up to you, and what is possible for you.
What will Breakin’ Convention provide?
Two skilled mentors to guide you through the week
£500 towards studio hire. We will need you to source and book a studio and we will pay them directly.
